Job Title: Operator for Food and Nutrition Services
Terms of Employment: 180 days
Part time: 4-5 hours per day
Full time: 6-7.5 hours per day
Function: Perform routine tasks associated with food preparation, serving, and clean up. May also include operating a cash register (POS) for sales. The work involves preparing breakfast and lunch meals for school populations. Operate various industrial kitchen equipment used in food preparation. Maintain sanitary working areas. Document records of food temperatures and food amounts. Maintain inventory in refrigerated and dry storage areas.
Qualifications:
- Preferred high school diploma or GED.
- Ability to read and write.
- Ability to follow oral and written communications.
- Ability to learn and follow prescribed preparation, meal service, clean up, sanitation, and safety methods.
- Ability to inventory and record information accurately.
- Ability to lift and move 35 to 50 pounds repetitively.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to adapt to different work environments and able to interact with a variety of people.
- Personal standards of appearance and dress compatible with those required by DHEC and Anderson School District One, Student Nutrition Services.
- Working knowledge of food service operations.
- Knowledge of basic mathematics and measurement conversions.
- Emotional stability and physical fitness to perform assigned duties.
- Able to wear latex food handler style gloves.
- Able to use food service grade chemicals.
- Ability to work with limited amount of direct supervision.
Reports To: This position reports to the Cafeteria Manager
Performance Responsibilities:
- Job duties include but are not limited to lifting, pulling, pushing, grasping, twisting (including wrists), reaching below and overhead, standing for long periods of time, squatting, bending, stooping, kneeling, and climbing.
- Maintains the cleanliness of the kitchen and cafeteria areas: wash dishes, clears counters, sweeps and mop floors, clean freezers, coolers and storage areas. Cleans kitchen appliances, cleans employee restrooms, cleans and maintains the garbage collection area.
- Assists in putting away deliveries and rotating stock in an efficient and safe manner.
- Interacts with immediate supervisor, cafeteria staff, delivery drivers, students, parents, teachers, school staff and administration.
- Operates and/or utilizes various appliances and equipment such as ovens, stoves, steamers, mixers, dishwashers, tilt skillets, etc., for extended periods of time.
Working Conditions:
- Conducts duties in a cafeteria/kitchen environment with routine exposure to discomforting conditions such as heat, cold, food preparation equipment and utensils, smoke and steam.
- Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require attention, and meeting deadlines.
- Physical demands are restricted to kitchen work requiring lifting/moving of items weighing up to 50 pounds and standing for long periods of time.
- Job requires the operation of standard cafeteria/food services equipment.
